The Southerly 105 Ketch (1981) is a distinctive British sailing yacht with an electro-hydraulic lifting keel and a skeg-mounted lifting rudder. This combines excellent sailing characteristics with a variable draft of around 1.00 to 2.10 metres, ideal for coastal and tidal waters as well as shallow inland waters such as the IJsselmeer, Wadden Sea and Frisian lakes. The relatively rare ketch design offers extra flexibility in sail handling and ensures a stable course. Thanks to the sheltered centre cockpit, double helm and practical deck layout, the boat is easy to handle for solo sailing or a small crew.
This particular specimen stands out because of extensive investments and technical upgrades in recent years. Most important is the complete refit of the keel structure in 2025, an essential and costly maintenance item that this has covered for a long time. In 2023, the standing and running rigging, among others, were renewed, installed a Furlex roll reefing system and a Raymarine linear autopilot professionally mounted on a reinforced rudder quadrant. The electrical installation was also completely renewed in 2023, including automatic switchboard and 220V connections.
Furthermore, the ship is equipped with, among other things, a new Vetus bow thruster (2022), Raymarine Tridata with NMEA2000 (2022), new Vetus hull windows and Autotherm diesel heater (2024), renewed dirty water hoses and antifouling (2024) and a new service battery (2026).
On board, much attention has been paid to comfort and practicality. Four additional floor hatches create around 400 litres of additional storage space, including room for a folding bike, for example, and there is preparation for a lithium service battery bank of up to around 600 Ah. The layout offers berths for 7 to 8 people, a bright saloon, a spacious aft cabin and a well-ventilated interior with high-quality teak work.
Combined with the extensive sail wardrobe and complete navigation and deck equipment, this results in a particularly complete and well-maintained example of the Southerly 105 Ketch.
